There's been a lot happening

Well it's been a while since we last posted and there have been some big changes for the Black Truffle crew.
In late 2023 we took a well-earned holiday to the deep south and fell in love with a stunning property in Otago. After a lot of logistical planning and soul searching, we made the difficult decision to sell the trufferie and relocate South.

So, in February of 2024 we set forth with all our worldly belongings, two dogs and the cat and headed south on our next big adventure. Thinking ourselves bullet proof we set up home in a 'cosy' caravan for the remainder of the summer while we built a shed/small apartment on our wilding pine covered section - we now have enough firewood to keep us going for the next ten years.
Part of our sale agreement for the trufferie was an agreement to hunt and retain the truffle crop from the 2024 season so Milo and Marie set off back up north in June for a couple of months truffle hunting. Being his usual brilliant self, Milo had not forgotten what to do and wriggled into his harness and was off sniffing out truffle like the pro he is.

We had an amazing end to our season and time in Rotorua when we filmed an episode of Nadia's Farm in the trufferie with Milo (plus Ted who had flown up for a cameo role) turning on the charm and showing just how much of an amazing truffle hunting dog he is. What a way to end our last hunt in Rotorua, sitting in the trufferie eating scrambled eggs smothered in fresh truffle straight from the pan!
Returning to the deep south was a bit of a shock to the system and the caravan was dispatched with little ceremony shortly after as the apartment was finished and more importantly toasty warm.
We haven't given up on Truffles and have a grand plan to grow truffle in the Otago region, however it's a lot more challenging choosing a spot given the near freezing temperatures around harvest time and the risk or permafrost in the ground. Milo is keeping his paw in and has had a couple of gigs hunting in the region already this season putting his skills to use.
So, watch this space - if we're not hunting, we might be growing as we're not finished with the wee black treasures yet!
